The visa is the act by which a country allows a foreign individual to enter its territory for a certain period of time and for certain purposes (tourism, work, study, business).
The visa can take the form of a sticker affixed to the passport or a separate document that must accompany the passport upon entry into the foreign country.
The entry visa is not required by all countries since bilateral agreements exist between Italy and other states that allow citizens to move by presenting only their passport.
Schengen agreement
Italy, for example, has signed agreements on the visa-free movement of its citizens with 171 countries and occupies the third place for freedom of movement in the world ranking stipulated by “Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions”.
Citizens of European Union states, which have signed the Schengen agreements, can move freely within the EU.
Furthermore, American citizens who want to stay in Italy may not apply for a visa; African and Asian citizens, on the other hand, must apply for it.
important Things to Know
Before leaving and applying for a visa, the applicant should check the expiry date of the passport. In fact, to apply for a visa, the passport must have a residual validity of at least 3-6 months.
As mentioned above, to enter a foreign country a citizen must apply for a visa.
It takes place according to very common procedures and methods all over the world. However, these methods may change based on some factors such as:
– The nationality of the applicant (eg an Italian citizen can travel to 171 countries without requiring a visa);
– The place of residence (eg if the Italian citizen resides in Germany he must apply for an outbound visa in Germany);
– The purpose of the trip (there are countries that offer more options); – The length of the stay;
– The country to visit.
Visa Application
Some countries offer the possibility to apply for a visa electronically without having to go to the embassy or consulate. Secondly, there are some countries that require biometric data for entry and do so either for all foreigners or only for those of some nationalities. Third, the visa can be requested by the person concerned or also by intermediary agencies that are responsible for collecting, checking and sending the documentation to the embassy or consulate for the visa application.
MAIN VISA APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Request for electronic travel authorization:
refers to travel authorization provided by a foreign government in the form of an identification code linked to the traveler’s passport number. Examples of electronic travel authorizations are: ESTA for the United States, ETA for Canada, E-VISITOR for Australia and ETA for India which must be requested online.
Request for biometric data collection:
in this case the consular representation requires that the traveler also deposit fingerprints at the same time as the visa request, examples are: the UK GENERAL VISITOR VISA application for the United Kingdom, the B1 B2 visa for the United States, the visa for ‘Iran and for Saudi Arabia.
Consular visa application by presenting the documentation:
some foreign consular representations require that visa application documents be delivered also through delegates, examples are visas for China, Russia, India and many other destinations.
Request for a consular visa to be paid by the person concerned:
some foreign consular representations require the traveler to be heard about the reasons for his visit. This practice is also adopted when the documentation provided by the traveler is considered incomplete, for example: TRB China visa for travelers who went to Turkey from 2016 onwards.
Visa application through on-site sponsors:
the traveler must receive travel authorization from a hotel, an airline or an employer, such as the United Arab Emirates and a work visa for the United States.
Visa obtained on arrival:
it is possible to obtain the visa directly upon arrival in the foreign destination, for example: the TARJETA for Cuba, the Dominican Republic or the visa for Madagascar.
All The Visas Moving People allows Italian or foreign citizens residing in Italy to apply for outgoing visas by presenting only the necessary documentation and passport to the affiliated agency. It will then be up to the agency to start the visa application procedures.
