The Life of an Expat Indians in Malta: Living Like A Local

Expat Life in Malta: Bridging Cultures and Creating Connections Indians in Malta

Born and raised in India, I’m currently living in Malta. It’s been a year since I’ve been away from home, but it feels like I never left. Malta is just like India – many people speak English, there are so many of our food items here, the weather is near enough the same (hot with plenty of rain)

Introduction

In India, the traditional way of life is slowly becoming a thing of the past. More and more people are moving to urban areas in search of better opportunities. This often means leaving behind family and friends and starting a new life in a completely unfamiliar place.

For many Indians, Malta is that place. It’s a small island nation in the Mediterranean Sea, and it’s become a popular destination for Indian expats in recent years.

One of the best things about living in Malta is that it’s such a safe place. I never once felt unsafe during my time there, even when walking around alone at night. The crime rate is extremely low, and I always felt very secure.

What Indians Should Know Before Arriving in Malta

India and Malta may be two completely different places, but there are a few things that Indians should know before arriving in Malta. Here are a few tips:

What Indians Should Know Before Arriving in Malta

1. The weather in Malta is quite same what Indians are used to. The summers are hot and humid, while the winters are mild. So no need to worry about it

2. Maltese culture is very different from India culture. There is a lot of emphasis on family and community, and religion plays a big role in everyday life. It’s important to be respectful of these differences. However, being an Indian also has people of different cultures and religions, so it will not be difficult for them

3. The Maltese language is very different from Hindi or any other Indian language. While English is widely spoken, it’s still important to try and learn some basic Maltese (National Language) phrases before arrival.

4. The cost of living in Malta quite low, especially if you’re used to the lower costs in India. It’s important to budget accordingly and save up before making the move.

5. There are a lot of great things to see and do in Malta, from exploring the ancient city of Valletta to swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Make sure to take some time to enjoy all that this beautiful country has to offer!

Finding a Place to Live (Renting or Buying)

If you’re planning on making the move to Malta, congratulations! This beautiful Mediterranean island has a lot to offer its residents, from stunning beaches and picturesque villages to a rich history and culture.

But before you can start enjoying all that Malta has to offer, you’ll need to find a place to live. If you’re not sure whether you want to rent or buy a property in Malta, here are some things to consider:

Renting:

– Renting a House is often more flexible than buying, which can be helpful if you’re not sure how long you’ll be living in Malta or if your job situation is uncertain.

Apartment (1 bedroom house) in City Centre 800€ -850€

Apartment (1 bedroom house) Outside of Centre 850€-900€

– It’s usually easier and less expensive to move into a rented property than it is to buy a property outright.

– You won’t have to worry about maintenance or repairs, as these will typically be the responsibility of your landlord.

Finding a Place to Live (Renting or Buying)

Buying:

– Buying a property gives you the security of knowing that you have a place to live even if your job situation changes or you decide to stay in Malta for the long term.

Price per Square Meter to Buy Apartment in City Centre 3400€-3800€

Price per Square Meter to Buy Apartment Outside of Centre 2500€-2700€

– Once you’ve paid off your mortgage, owning your own home can be cheaper than renting in the long run. And, of course, you’ll build up equity in your property as well.

About the Author(anyexpat)

Quick Intro, I am Kenny and I am from sunny Scotland. I have experienced the Expat specific challenges of all aspects of moving and living in several countries over the years. Having previously built large online networks I created a single Facebook Group called "Expats In Italy" as this is what I was at that time. This single group has grown to many, with the groups focus being to help people save Time, Money, Effort and Stress in their relocation journey. My focus and that of AnyExpat is on Legal, Financial and Real Estate services, rather than offer advice myself (I do not) instead I have curated a highly qualified, English Speaking network of professionals who are standing by to assist you.
