Stunning location for a new build…
If building your own home in Calabria, southern Italy has been your dream, then look no further. We are in the process of doing just that for a client based in the USA. This plot of land with absolutely stunning views of the coastline had an old ruin on it. She fell in love with the position and after we carried out all the relevant checks she purchased it.
Using our geometra/engineer a design was created that encompassed the wishes of our client within the building regulations of the local Comune and Region of Calabria. A modern house on 3 levels to include a basement, first floor living space with large terrace and an upper attic level with roof terrace – to enjoy those spectacular views with a glass or 2 of vino!!
Once we had the permission granted from the Comune our construction team then prepared the quote for works. Our client signed the contract of engagement and work can begin. The work started with preparing the construction site in line with health & safety. Then to demolish the old structure as it was too close to the road and new regulations dictate a specific distance from the road for new builds.
Let the build begin..
Excavation for the foundations meant lots of earth moving and a cement base followed by steel reinforcement, followed by a concrete plateau and pillars to comply with sismec regulations. The walls of the basement were constructed and, as some of this level will be partially underground, it had to be well insulated and made impermeable. Drainage has been added and now the outer edges have been back-filled and compacted down in readiness for the start of the upper level.
This is where we are now!!
Keeping Up to date
Our client has been updated daily with photos and video calls. Occasional changes have had to be made and the geometra, constructor and myself have discussed them with our client, ensuring she is aware of every stage of the process.
She visited in June and was extremely pleased with the result so far!
Modern technology has assisted greatly with this project and our client has assured us that she feels in safe hands & involved even at a distance.
There is still lots to come on this build, as it is being constructed in phases at the request of our client. I will post updates periodically. Hopefully, for those thinking of embarking on this type of project, although it may seem daunting, with the right combination of professionals and tradespeople it can be a rewarding experience..
We hope that you will follow us on our journey…..
