Why learning with us?

Ciao! Mi chiamo Laura.

I am a qualified teacher of Italian and I have been running Parla Italiano since 2006. I have worked for International House London and other international schools before setting up my own. I am assisted by a group of excellent teachers. The group is inspired by the goal of achieving student’s objectives. Our goal is to guide our students to get where they want to be with the passion of doing a great job.

All our classes are delivered online using Zoom. Our classes are teacher-led, very interactive and with a strong focus on speaking.

1. What types of courses do you offer?

  • Regular Italian courses by level

We offer live, online courses at all levels. These are teacher-lead courses on Zoom. We cater both for complete beginners and for intermediate and advances students. Students are assessed and join the correct group level. Our courses are designed to develop the four skills (speaking, listening, writing, reading) with a focus on speaking.

  • Conversation Club

We offer a conversation club, this is a bundle of lessons which are aimed specifically at developing speaking. Our conversation classes are well-structured to allow our students to relax and immerse themselves into the speaking activities with ease and enthusiasm.

  • Book club

We also run a book club for students who have achieved at least a B2 level. Students read one chapter of an Italian book at home supported by a worksheet prepared by the tutor. Then during the live class, students discuss each point together in small groups guided by the teacher. There is also a focus on vocabulary and specific language.

2. Do you do group and individual tuition? What is the difference?

We mainly do group classes as we value the interactions between students and the opportunities to learn from each other. These lessons give students the chance to socialise and to build rapport. Group lessons are also more cost-effective.

However, if you cannot make our group classes, we can arrange an individual block of lessons for you. These are more flexible both in terms of time and also specific needs.

3. Where do you teach?

All our classes, group and individual, are live, online on Zoom.

4. What do I need to join your Zoom class?

You need a desktop computer, or a laptop, or a tablet. You need a good internet connection.  You need headphones and to be in a quiet room without anyone else with you.  Please only use a phone if you have nothing else, and if so please use a tripod to hold the phone completely still.

5. How do I know what level class to join?

You can test yourself on our website, here is the link. (Test Your Italian – Parla Italiano) We are also available for a deeper assessment to help you find the correct level for you. Just get in touch with me and we’ll arrange an assessment: [email protected]

6. When can I join one of your courses?

You can join our classes anytime. Only for the complete beginner the start of the course is at the beginning of each term, so we have new classes in January, April, June and September.

7. What’s different about your tutors?

All the tutors we work with are native and qualified. They are handpicked personally by our funder Laura Scaramella who has been a teacher trainer and language tutor for many years. All our tutors are qualified language trainers, degree educated and have experience teaching their native tongue.

We nurture our teacher and support them and so our students benefit from learning in a friendly and professional environment.

8. What method do you use?

We use a variety of methods based on our extensive experience and research. You can expect a focus on speaking, for this we use the communicative approach. However, you can expect in our lessons to develop all skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading). We also use other methodologies that allow our students to develop language specific to their needs and according to their personal experience. We offer original lessons and a great variety of motivating activities.

9. How do I know if Parla Italiano is for me?

We cater for students who have a real interest in learning. We offer guidance, clear grammar explanations, plenty of speaking practice, motivating material and a sprinkle of fun. If you wish to try one session, we offer a free trial, click on this link.(Free trial – Parla Italiano)

10. How long are the courses and lessons?

Our courses include 10 lessons (15 hours of tuition), so our group lessons are 1.5 hours long.

11. Do you provide materials?

Your tutor will provide some material. We recommend, though, that students purchase a textbook for the course. We have a recommended list of books and materials, and your tutor will be able to give you guidance on the best option for you.

12. What people say about you?

We have a page of testimonials from students which you can see here. This is what one of our most recent student said:

“I have been taking Italian lessons with Parla Italiano on and off over the last few years. The Zoom lessons are convenient, no time is now wasted in travelling, it’s just a short walk to my dining room and a quick click of a button to access the session. The class sizes are generally small and Laura and the other teachers are very supportive and encouraging and there is a mixture of conversational, written and reading activities. It is also easy to switch levels, repeat a module or move up if required. An additional bonus is that if you miss a lesson the session is recorded and you can then catch up in your own time.I would thoroughly recommend taking classes with Laura and her team.”Fionnuala Archer, Herefordshire, England

13. How do I pay?

You can pay by credit/debit card on our website or bank transfer if you prefer it.

14. I never liked learning at school, will private tuition be different?

Private tuition is nothing like school. All lessons take place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our tutors are all professional teachers use to put students at ease and make your learning experience enjoyable and fun.

15. My company is going to pay for my lessons. Are you able to invoice them?

Yes, we can arrange for your company to be invoiced directly for an agreed course or block of lessons as long as the tuition has been approved.
