It all started with a frustrating experience. Our CEO and co-founder, Nathalie Goldstein, had just moved from California to Austria when she went through what she describes as a “horrible” U.S. tax filing process with a U.S.-based CPA. Endless back-and-forth emails, high fees, and very little clarity. It made one thing painfully clear: American expats deserved something better.

At the time, the four founders were working at a large multinational IT company. We had the technical know-how, international experience, and—most importantly—the shared desire to solve a real problem. One late afternoon in October, armed with large sheets of paper and a lot of coffee, we sketched out database models and user flows that would eventually become the first version of MyExpatTaxes.

We launched in March 2018. The response was overwhelming. Expats from all over the world finally had access to a tax solution that was simple, affordable, and actually designed for their lives abroad. Encouraged by the feedback, we left our corporate jobs and committed fully to building what has since become one of the leading U.S. expat tax platforms.

Today, MyExpatTaxes is powered by smart software and an even smarter team. Over 30% of our team are expats themselves, so we truly understand the challenges of living abroad while staying compliant with U.S. tax laws. We’re not just crunching numbers—we’re solving a problem we’ve lived through.
